The challenge

A flat with 1970s services, a long corridor layout and poorly ventilated internal rooms. The owners wanted more light and more usable space without losing the original joinery or the hydraulic tiled floor in the hallway.

The solution

Two partitions were removed to open the kitchen, dining area and living room into one space, leaving the beam exposed. Water, electrical and gas installations were fully renewed. The hydraulic floor was restored by sanding and sealing rather than replacing it, and the original louvred doors were restored and refitted in place.
