Interior courtyard refurbishment

The challenge

The light well was taking on damp from leaking downpipes and the render was flaking away across all four walls. The courtyard was too narrow to erect conventional scaffolding without filling the whole ground floor.

The solution

The work was carried out from a suspended cradle hung from the roof, which made it possible to reach all four walls without occupying the courtyard floor. Failing lengths of downpipe were replaced with acoustic PVC, the render was cut back to a sound base and a breathable, damp-resistant mineral silicate paint system was applied.
