Entrance hall refurbishment and accessibility works

Adapting the entrance hall of a 28-home building so it is step-free from the street to the lift.

The challenge

There were three steps from the street and a further change of level up to the lift, which shut out residents with reduced mobility. The original flooring was worn and the lighting was inadequate for the size of the hall.

The solution

The change of level outside was resolved with a compliant access ramp, and the one inside with a vertical lifting platform. The floor was replaced with class 2 anti-slip porcelain tiles and the electrical installation rebuilt with LED fittings and presence detection. Residents were able to use the entrance every day except the three needed to pour the new floor.
