Painting and repair of communal areas

Renewal of the staircase and landings of a five-storey building without ever blocking residents’ access.

Corridor and entrance hall of a residential building with timber panelling after renewal

The challenge

The staircase had cracks on the landings, old damp staining beside the downpipes, and paintwork that had not been renewed in more than fifteen years. The work had to be done without blocking residents’ access at any point.

The solution

Work was organised floor by floor and scheduled for mornings, always leaving one side of the landing clear. Cracks were opened and stitched before skimming, and a washable emulsion in pale tones was applied to bring light into a stairwell with no daylight. Railings were sanded, primed and repainted in place.
